Watercolour scribbles...

Hello everyone, hope you are all enjoying your weekend. Despite the forecast for heavy rain this morning the sun is shining and it is a lovely autumn day here.

I love watercolour and for these creations I have used some really earthy watercolour tones of brown and grey. 

 

They are all made using some scrunched up paper to use as a kind of dabber to apply the watercolour. This has resulted in a mix up of the colours and this mottled effect.

The really fun part was adding some intuitive calligraphy. Although my hand writing is not good at least I can do this kind of random scribble.

The flowers are by Hobbycraft and sentiment by Stampin Up. I love the grungey look combined with the pretty white  flowers.

 

For the scribble I used black India ink. I love this medium. It reacts differently to ordinary watercolour and is perfect for calligraphy. I love it because it stays a true black when dry.

I extended the watercolour right round the card...

 I shall be entering my card into this week's Less Is More challenge called # 348 Watercolour.

Mini collage art book using Prima Oil pastels...

I absolutely love collage and totally lose myself in the whole process. I also love the unpredictability, never really knowing quite how things will turn out.

 

One of the ways I like to display my collage pieces is to create mini art books. I have created quite a few now and use them when I want to look at back at my work and remind myself of the different products and techniques I used in each one.

 

I think one of the tricks to collage is to expect it to go through a bit of an ugly duckling stage at first. Is this something you find too? However, as I added white Gesso and then the Prima pastels to co-ordinate with the collage papers, it all began to come together.

 

Here is a photo of the front of my mini book. The addition of the black half circles was a last minute thought but I think it helps to bring each pages together. I simply drew them in a charcoal pencil and added a tiny amount of water to blur the edges.

 

The lovely little tassels are by Provo Craft which I have had in my stash for years now. I don't know who make the little black word stickers as I have also had these for a long time too.

I added some faux texture to the collage by stamping a background stamp by Studio Lights (No.181) in white acrylic paint which has given the whole piece a slightly distressed look.

 

And, finally a picture of the fab Prima oil pastels. This is a new type of medium for me, but I have to say I am in totally love with them. Initially I was applying them by scribbling with them and then adding water, but if you spray the water first and then add the oil pastels, the pastels just dissolve beautifully into the water. I don't think it matters which way you do it but I love how these just melted into my artwork and the colours are amazing too.

Heavy Metal

Hi! Welcome to my very first blog post of my brand new blog.

Having been creating art for many years I thought it about time I start a blog to share my passion for art on the world wide web. I love all things art including mixed media, abstract art, art journalling and so much more and I hope to bring you all sorts of art creations in the coming weeks and months.

I thought I would create this art book cover for the Simon Says Monday Challenge which is called "Heavy Metal".

I sprayed lots of Lindy's mica sprays in gold and bronze colours and stamped a flourish stamp by Indigo Blu all over the card using gold acrylic paint. The photos do not do the Lindy's sprays justice, in the daylight the card just shimmers with all the lovely glimmer from the mists.

The sentiment embossed in gold is from the Donna Downey Empowered Words stamp set, a great sentiment which I certainly love to live by!

The little black scrapbook is by Hobby Craft which I will be using as kind of mini portfolio for my art.
